Should I boot out my 20 yr. olds cat?

My 20 yr. old daughter has a pet cat that she proclaims to love dearly. She has had it for over two years, and she rarely does anything to take care of it.

The litter box is always disgusting, and the cat will sometimes mess other places because of it. I am left to clean it up. I am not well, and can barely take care of my other child who is seven.

Also, the cat has epliepsy. My daughter will not take it to the vet regularly, and right now it has a horrible skin condition. It is pretty gross. And, I feel so sorry for the cat! I have threatened finding the cat a new home for ages, but she does not take me seriously. What should I do?

Should I boot out my 20 yr. olds cat?
I have a neighbor in the same situation. She has a adult daughter who is not allowed to have a cat at her house, so keeps her cat in the mom's house. The mom doesn't want to or is unable to take care of the cat, and as a result, the cat is always outside (even in cold/rainy weather), has not been groomed in a few years, has had an open/festering wound, and has a collar (no id) that has effectively rusted shut. I have my own, well cared for, inside-only cat and I don't want another pet. I have tried to help, but after just feeding the cat one day (saw it trying to drink water out of a puddle) it's now attached and runs into my garage whenever it's open.

My neighbor's daughter and your daughter are adults in the legal sense of the word. They have an obligation to be responsible guardians. I recommend giving your daughter a short timeframe to step up and show that she's responsible. Otherwise, take the cat to an animal shelter. Shelters can't compare to a loving household but are far better than a neglecting (willful or not) home.
Reply:Find a new home for the cat. Or send it to a place that rescues animals. You are not doing your daughter any favors by picking up after her cat. She's an adult and should not be leaving her responsibilities to you. Time for her to grow up. The cat goes. But send it to a place where it will be cared for.
Reply:why is your 20 year old daughter still living at home? she should be out by now and taking her cat with her.

other then that its your house tell her if she wants to keep it she has to care for it or its gone.
Reply:You are doing your daughter no favors by letting her take advantage of you.....She needs to learn responsibility and as hard as "tough love" is on us parents....it really is best for the kids.....Your daughter is being selfish and will continue to be so until you no longer allow it...Tell your daughter she has ONE WEEK to get rid of the cat or you will take it to the humane society..Stick to your guns and you will be taken seriously in future instances...Good Luck! xxxxturtlegirl
Reply:Well this is what I would do , i would not "boot out" my cat even if it makes a mess cause if you really liked your cat yuo would keep him no matter what.
Reply:it sounds like, your cat. tell her to take care of her

responsiblity or else. does the cat have mange? if so.be careful humans can catch it. i was rased on a farm and i know alot

about animals my brother is a vet. you may have to put it to sleep if its real sickly. if you love the cat tell her.

this cats mind im the one who takes care of it. she's 20

not a child. so its up to you. you pay the bills in your

home? your the mom not her!also you can catch worms from

animals.so make sure you up to date on shots, wormers and

because you have a 7 year old have the cat declawed.you

dont want to get scratch by claws that may have cat pooh

in them. there are all kinds of washes for your pet on over

the counter and of course from the vet. wash the cats paws

everyday with wash cloth. it might not like it but it will

get use to it. but 1st get it well. good luck on what ever

you deside to do. rather you boot out the cat or boot out your daughter.ha ha
Reply:Depending on how sick the cat is, it sounds like it may have to be put down. But if the vet says it is not that sick, I would go get a pet carrier, get the cat in it, and when she comes home from wherever, tell her to go find it a home right then and there. Tell her that it is not staying in your home another hour. At twenty years old, she is living with her mother and not taking responsability for her pet in over two years, she is not going to start. Time for some tough love. If she wants the cat that bad, she will find some other place to live where she won't have you to take care of the cat for her.

Foliculitis?

I have a severe case of foliculitis and have had it since I was about 15 years old. I am now 22 and found out what it actually was when I was pregnant. I have tried everything the doctors tell me to try and control it but nothing works. I have terrible scaring on my arms mostly because of this and it makes me feel really ugly. I also get boils, which is apart of it. People always stare at me and I even had a cop ask if I done drugs! If anyone knows anything about this skin condition please help me out in some way. Thanks.

Foliculitis?
How is it treated?

Usually mild folliculitis heals on its own in about 2 weeks. Warm compresses made with white vinegar or Burow’s solution may help relieve itching and aid healing. If the infection does not go away, an antibiotic or antifungal cream will usually clear up the condition. Medicated shampoos are available to treat folliculitis on the scalp or beard.

For deeper, more severe infections, your doctor may prescribe antibiotic or antifungal pills.

Sometimes the infection is stubborn and requires a long course of treatment. In some cases, laser hair removal may be an option. Laser treatment destroys the hair follicles so they can't become infected

Treatment Overview

Mild cases of folliculitis sometimes heal on their own. However, folliculitis may return or get worse. If your folliculitis spreads or returns, see your doctor for proper treatment.

If your infection is caused by bacteria and it is:

*Mild, you can try an antibiotic ointment or cream such as bacitracin, polymyxin B sulfate (Polysporin), clindamycin, erythromycin, or mupirocin (Bactroban). You may also use an antiseptic cleanser, such as povidone-iodine (for example, Betadine) or chlorhexidine.

*Deeper or more severe, you will need to take antibiotic pills. Your doctor may prescribe dicloxacillin, erythromycin, or cephalexin (such as Keflex). Ciprofloxacin (Cipro) and ofloxacin (such as Floxin) are used for certain types of bacteria.

If your infection is caused by a fungus:

*You will need to take antifungal pills, such as fluconazole (Diflucan), griseofulvin (Fulvicin-U/F or Gris-PEG, for example), itraconazole (Sporanox), or terbinafine (Lamisil).

*Your doctor may give you a corticosteroid to reduce inflammation.

*If folliculitis occurs on your scalp or beard area, you can use a shampoo containing selenium sulfide 2.5%, selenium 1%, or 50% propylene glycol.

For stubborn or recurrent cases of folliculitis, laser treatment may be an option. Laser treatment destroys the hair follicle and reduces the scarring that results from folliculitis. However, hair will no longer grow in the treated area. Laser treatment is expensive.

If you have folliculitis, try the following measures:

*Use an antibacterial soap to wash the infected area. If the infection is on your scalp or beard, use a shampoo containing selenium or propylene glycol. Your doctor may also prescribe a medicated shampoo with ketoconazole (Nizoral Topical).

*Apply warm, wet compresses 3 to 6 times a day to help folliculitis heal faster and stop the itching or pain. Wash your hands before applying a compress. To make a compress, moisten a clean cloth or piece of gauze with warm water.

*Place it over the infected area until it begins to cool (usually 5 to 10 minutes). You can make compresses with:

Burow's solution, which you can buy without a prescription in many drugstores and supermarkets.

*White vinegar solution. Mix 1 Tbsp (15 mL) of white vinegar and 1.33 cups (315 mL) of water.

When to call a doctor

If you have folliculitis, call your doctor if:

*It spreads or keeps coming back.

*You develop other symptoms, such as fever over 101° (38°), redness, swelling, warmth, or increased pain over the infected area.

~^-^~ Report It

Reply:Folliculitis is caused by the staph germ which hides in your nose and you become a carrier of the germ. One third of the population are carriers but most don't develop folliculitis very often.

Try using intranasal Bactroban (swab a dab on a q-tip swirled around inside of nose 2X daily, AM%26amp;PM) for a month and this will help. Also wash your pillow cases and sheets and clothes regularly in very hot water and detergent. And take a shower daily and use Hibiclens as your soap.

http://us.gsk.com/products/assets/us_bac...

If this doesn't work ask your Dr about taking Keflex or dicloxacillin every day to block the infection along with the intranasal Bactroban.

http://www.intekom.com/pharm/smith_kb/bb...

The generic bactroban ointment works just as well as the new name brand Bactroban intranasal formulation.

Using vinegar in the shower to clean skin of staph germs is also a good suggestion and this is cheaper than Hibiclens, although you have to rinse off the vinegar thoroughly after washing the skin.

The army is trying to send my brother to IRAQ again for the 3rd time...he isn't mentally well?

My brother has been to Iraq two times now they are trying to send him there for a third time but he isn't mentally well....he was supposed to get out in March 2008 but they back locked him in or some crap....but my question is what can myself and my family do to make sure that they don't send him back over there? I know there has to be something....I'm sure God will protect him but the fact remains that my brother isnt mentally stable...he has nightmares and a bad bad temper...from being over there he even has a skin condition that causes him to sweat alot even though it may be cold outside...he is the only brother I have and it really takes a toll on me mentally and physically everytime he is sent away what can we do PLEASE HELP!!

The army is trying to send my brother to IRAQ again for the 3rd time...he isn't mentally well?
I'm so sorry to hear about your brother. I really don't know what to tell you, but I just wanted to tell you to tell your brother thank you for your sacrifice.

Bless him.

Reply:if they want to send him back to Iraq you cant do anything.

my bf has been their 3 times and he is going to come home for a year and then go back for a 4th time so we cant do anything but pray that this war will end soon so they dont have to go back over their and my bf has been thier for the last 2 year without coming home at all
Reply:Get him into treatment right away. PTSD is what he has. Trust me, they will try to screw him by tossing him for a behaviour discharge or something. Tell him to see the docs and get it all down on paper.
Reply:Did he ever have his post deployment mental health exam? Have him see a counselor at mental/behavioral health. It sounds like some symptoms of PTSD. The predeployment and field training exercises could really trigger him. He needs to start talking to someone soon. The diagnosis should set him at nondeployable status and they can place him on Read D so he could continue with his therapy. If he is still active duty, he is at their needs and they may still deploy him. After his visit and assessment at mental health, he needs to talk to his CO and get the assessment to them. Good luck and please feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.
Reply:If you can get a Army Doctor to issue a Section 8 discharge, he can get out, but otherwise he is stcuk. There are alot of soldiers in Iraq who are on anti-depressant, anti-anxiety, or other medications for their mental health. Realistically he will have to go. You might want to talk to a civlian lawyer who specializes in military law to give your brother advice.
Reply:You mentioned that he is your only brother... I assume that he is the only living heir to your father's name. He may be exempt on a technicality. He needs mental health but think about this; he may suffer more if he lets his friends go back and he doesn't go with them. That was a huge problem in Vietnam, survivor's guilt. We pulled out people individually and not as a unit. Those that got home worried about their friends still in combat. We don't do that now but the unit has to return and he may regret the rest of his life if something happened to one of his friends.
Reply:Unless they can certify him as mentally unfit--I doubt that your brother is going to be able to escape serving a third tour.

These army jagoffs don't care much for their own soldiers' well being.

And neither does our own government.
Reply:Dear concerned relative:

You need to do a couple of things; however, you also have to move swiftly - even still there is no guarantee this will work, but here it goes:

1. Obtain medical documentation from medical records that belong to your brother - he may have seen both a Medical Doctor and possibly a Mental Health professional at the current place of assignment.

2. Attached are links to the Senate and House in Washington DC. Find out who your representatives are and write them. Then call the staffers in the DC office and find out when the Senators and Congressmen/women are back home.

3. Congress takes a break during the month of August - this will be your best chance to get a hold of these people at your location.

4. Do NOT attempt this if your information is only half together - you need to spend the time, burn the midnight oil, and have all of your ducks in order before you speak with these people; else, you will be sent back to the drawing board.

5. Be persistent, consistent, and most of all POLITE. Anger, the display of emotional feelings, and other subjective unprofessional emotional displays will NOT be to your or your brother's benefit. Be and act like a professional Attorney - it is the only way to get this done.

Best of luck to you - the rest now is in your corner. Follow the links to find out who represents you - remember to vote - and thank your brother for me for HIS SERVICE, I for one am grateful.
Reply:Bad temper and nightmares? Tell him to join the club! Contact your Congressman!

Please DO NOT listen to Ted the Sped! The last thing your brother needs to do is fake an injury like Teddy suggests. Do it right and do it legal!
Reply:A doctor has to clear him to go, if the doctor doesn't find him to be in mental/physical condition for deployment, they can halt his deployment status until a full evaluation is done. If he is not receiving help he needs to seek it immediately and/or you and your family need to contact his command or chaplain if he has not been seen or is choosing not to see medical personell for the issues he is having.

DON'T yell at the command. Do explain you are truly worried about him, that he hasn't been acting himself. Explain what it is he is doing and that you would greatly appreciate any help they can render him.

Keep in mind please, PTSD and Combat Stress are different. He sounds more PTSD BUT, I am not a doctor, nor have I seen him to evaluate his symptoms.

I have sympathy for your brother in those regards. If he does not seek treatment, that is his own doing. He may want to go back. You'd be amazed how many of them actually want to go back.
Reply:Sorry, they don't care about your brother
Reply:Have him go to the Mental Health unit on the post and have them determine if he is mentally fit to be deployed.
Reply:I agree with Max. Get your Congressman involved.

GO to his or her office and sit there until you are seen.

The advice about being polite and calm is crap too.

If he can control himself he doesn't have a problem.

Use the Red Cross, Church and whatever else you can.

If your Senator won't do anything go to the press.

Has anyone ever heard of Chytridiomycota?

I know it's the oldest living fungi. My brother removed a vey old stump a year ago. He swears he now has this is in his body. He can see them "move". He has been to the ER and they call it I forgot, its a pretty common skin condition. However he breaks out, scratches it and puts any kind of medicine he can to try and get rid of it.

He swears that once you see them and recognize them, they are terrible looking. He is convienced they are in his blood stream.

If he had Medical insurance, he would get better help. He has contacted the Health Department and they are at the site now investigating this stump. Because they have "seen something unusuall" what, I don't know, they are bringing in a Specialist in Biology. Has anyone ever heard of this fungi or had it? Please help, My brother asked me to research today to see how he can get rid of it and/or what will kill it. He is going through chemicals such as bleach to clean the shower and Peroxide on his shin. He said he is so tired Help

Has anyone ever heard of Chytridiomycota?
Chytridiomycota is a phylum of the Fungi kingdom. The name refers to the chytridium (from the Greek chytridion, meaning "little pot"): the structure containing unreleased spores. In older classifications, chytrids (except the recently established order Spizellomycetales) were placed in the Class Phycomycetes under the Subdivision Myxomycophyta of the Kingdom Fungi. Also, in an older and more restricted sense (not used here), the term "chytrids" referred just to those fungi in the order Chytridiales.

The chytrids are the most primitive of the fungi and are mostly saprobic (degrading chitin and keratin). Many chytrids are aquatic (mostly found in fresh water). There are approximately 1,000 chytrid species, in 127 genera, distributed among 5 orders.

Both zoospores and gametes of the chytrids are mobile by their flagella, one whiplash per individual. The thalli are coenocytic and usually form no true mycelium (having rhizoids instead). Some species are unicellular.

Some chytrid species are known to kill amphibians in large numbers. The actual process, however, is unknown. The infection is referred to as chytridiomycosis. Decline in frog populations led to the discovery of chytridomycosis in 1998 in Australia and Panama. Chytrids may also infect plant species; in particular, maize-attacking and alfalfa-attacking species have been described. Synchytrium endobioticum is an important potato pathogen.

Thats all there is.

What is the use of folic acid during pregnancy?

folic acid supplement is often given to pregnant mothers what role does it play,on the body and could it be harmful to the unborn baby, could it be the cause of some skin condition on a newly born child or what could be the reason for a newly born child to suffer from eczema??

What is the use of folic acid during pregnancy?
In a round-about way, the above answer is basically saying that folic acid prevents a specific birth defect called spina bifida, which is when the spinal column is not closed and requires surgery to close it. It can be severe enough to cause permanent, life-long disability and paralysis.
Reply:Folic Acid is a critical part of spinal fluid and helps close the tube housing the central nervous system; also helps synthesize DNA and normalize brain function.
Reply:What you need to know:

Folic acid, a B vitamin, helps prevent birth defects of the brain and spinal cord when taken very early in pregnancy. It is available in most multivitamins, as a folic acid-only supplement and in some foods.

Some studies suggest that folic acid may also protect women and men from stroke, colon cancer and breast cancer.

What you can do:

Take a multivitamin with 400 micrograms of folic acid every day before pregnancy and during early pregnancy, as part of a healthy diet.

Eat a healthy diet that includes foods that contain folate, the natural form of the vitamin. Such foods include fortified breakfast cereals, dried beans, leafy green vegetables and orange juice.

If you have already had a pregnancy affected by a birth defect of the brain or spinal cord, ask your health care provider how much folic acid you need. Studies have shown that taking a larger dose of folic acid daily can reduce the risk of having another affected pregnancy. The larger dose needs to be taken at least one month before pregnancy and in the first trimester of pregnancy. The recommended dose is 4 milligrams (4,000 micrograms).

Take Folic Acid Before You're Pregnant

What Is Folic Acid and Why Does Your Baby Need it?

Folic acid is a naturally occurring B vitamin that helps a baby's neural tube—the part of a developing baby that becomes the brain and spinal cord—develop properly. It must be taken before and during early pregnancy when the neural tube is developing.

The best way to get enough folic acid is to take a multivitamin with 400 micrograms of folic acid in it and eat a healthy diet. Most multivitamins have this amount, but check the label to be sure. You also can get folic acid in your diet, but it's hard to get enough every day through food alone. That's why the March of Dimes encourages all women of childbearing age to take a multivitamin containing folic acid every day as part of a healthy diet.

Folic acid works, but it only works if taken before and during the first few weeks of pregnancy, when the neural tube is developing into the brain and spinal cord. When the neural tube does not close properly, a baby is born with a very serious birth defect called a neural tube defect (NTD). About 3,000 pregnancies are affected by NTDs each year in the United States. If all women took adequate folic acid before conception and during pregnancy, up to 70 percent of NTDs could be prevented.

Folic acid has no known toxic level. If you ate a bowl of fully fortified cereal (400 micrograms), took a folic acid supplement (400 micrograms), and ate fortified foods and foods rich in folate, you would not get too much folic acid. Even in very high amounts, folic acid is non-toxic. Still, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that women consume no more than 1,000 micrograms of synthetic folic acid a day

Folic Acid in Foods

Folic acid is found in the following foods:

Fortified breakfast cereals such as Total and Product 19

Lentils

Asparagus

Spinach

Black beans

Peanuts (only if you do not have a peanut allergy)

Orange juice (from concentrate is best)

Enriched breads and pasta

Romaine lettuce

Broccoli

Folic Acid Is Good for Mom and Dad Too

In recent years, doctors have come to realize that folic acid is very important for everyone in maintaining health. It has long been known that folic acid plays an important role in the production of normal red blood cells. More recent studies suggest that folic acid may help prevent stroke, colon and breast cancer.
Reply:Folic Acid is one of the most essential vitamins needed for the development of your baby. The lack of folic acid will risk your baby from spinia bifida and even orofacial cleft. I am 6 weeks pregnant now and is taking folic acid 5mg daily together with other essential vitamins.

Eating the right amount of food like fruits and vegetables coupled with the right vitamins will help develop a healthy baby. Skin problems for newborn babies occur if the mothers themselves lack the essential nutrients. So eat healthy food and sleep early. Good luck to both of us.
Reply:Folic acid plays an important role in DNA synthesis. It ovoids the malformation of new reproductive cells causing some serious birth defects called nueral tube defects such as spina bifida and annencephaly. It should be taken 2-3 months before conception. Spina bifida is the incomplete closure of neural tube any where in the spinal chord, and requires surgery to the new born baby. It can be mild to severe causing life long disabilites. Annencephaly is uniformly fatal, it is the incomplete closure of nueral tube at the cephalic end of the tube and it is incompatible with life. Annencephalic babies wont survive more than 3 days and it is a devastating disorder. Women who affected with spina bifida and annencephaly in previous pregnancy should take 5 mg of folic acid along with vitamin b12 and vitamin b6 to avoid the recurrence. Folic acid helps 70% of this birth defects although not completely eliminate the risk. More over folic acid prevents miscarriages, heart attack, cancer and other health defects. More over folic acid has no toxic level and it will not cause any harmful to your baby, rather it does good things to u and your new born baby. Contact your health care provider for more details.
Reply:Helps prevent Neural tube defects and Spina Bifida. No bad side effects.
