How do people asscoiate the disease HYPERTRICHOSIS with racism?

Also, why do they get all bent out of shape over a question regarding this rare skin condition.

No I don't have it, I just saw a couple shows featuring people with it and am wondering. The shows didn't raise this question just the answers I got when I asked a question on here regarding Hypertrichosis.

Have @ it.

How do people asscoiate the disease HYPERTRICHOSIS with racism?
most people are retards

soo they just call u racist for wahtever reson

epscilay the african monnkeys
Reply:I just looked up the term. You are refering to those people that are covered in hair? You should probably mention that in your question.

And I have no idea what "racism" you are talking about. How about a point of reference.

EDIT: Thanks dude. Insults are great when attempting intelligent discussion. I was trying to be helpful, that is all.

For one, most people have no idea what hypertrichosis is. Mention it, maybe, or post a link to the wikipedia article.

Two, You gave no examples of how you saw racism. You mentioned some shows, but never said waht you saw. I have never heard people specifically discriminate with those with it. In fact, some have become minor celebrities. What specifically are you talking about?

Try not to be so angry. It is bad for your health.
Reply:Whether it is Hypertrichosis or any other serious condition I believe the reason underlying the response you seek to explain is simple fear. Simple basic human fear of the unknown.

Bite or Rash, need help?

I have been to 2 doctors about a skin condition I have been having. A couple of months ago I started developing lumps on my hands and wrists that were pink/red in color, and itched quite badly. After a month or so I started to devolpe a rash over my arms, hips, stomach, and chest that was determined to be excema. While the topical steroids helped with the itching and the excema, the bumps on my hands and wrists are still present. They come and they go, but this morning they were 4-6 new ones that showed up. I have noticed that if I squeeze the bumps a clear liquid comes out of the affected area. Also it appears that the liquid comes out of 3 seperate makes all very close to one another. It appears as 1 mark until it is squeezed and the liquid come out of 3 spots in a triangle shape. I am thinking that it may be bed bugs, and that my excema was an alergic reaction to the bites. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this or not? Thanks for the help.

Bite or Rash, need help?
You need to see a dermatologist. Its sounds like pustular psoriasis...

EDIT: If you think you have bed bugs...Look on the wall behind your pillows and look for tiny dots of blood..If you see that, you have bed bugs. Although if still sounds like psoriaisis. Btw, there is no cure for this...You will need to use cream on the areas as needed possible forever ( I have it...) %26amp; increased sun exposure helps (Viatimin D) also tanning beds...Ask your doc for: fluocinonide cream.05%
Reply:Dude I say it is a rash you have go to the doctor and ask for cream.
Reply:I have suffered from eczema since I was a child and I have never had any liquid come out of any of my "spots". Have you examined your bed for bed bugs? Is there something else that could be causing this reaction? Have you seen an actual skin doctor (a dermatologist), or even an allergist? You might not even have eczema, it could be psoriasis.
Reply:Check for bed bugs by looking between your mattress and the wall for any black powdery substance. I doubt it's bed bugs because you'd have bites all over you, not just on your hands. It sounds to me like you might have either an allergy to something that you're getting your hands in - (do you wear rubber gloves, perhaps with latex?) or you could have a staph infection. Keep track of what you do with your hands every day - what products/soaps/detergent/cleaners/gloves you use and what jewelry/watch you wear. Try using different things and wash with neutragena soap for a few days to see if your rash clears up. I do suggest going to the doctor and ask specifically about staph as it's frequently misdiagnosed and does present as a pimply sort of rash.
Reply:log onto morgellons.org and compare symptoms

if its morgellons Stay away from steroidal creams steroids period and dermatologists cause docs don't believe this is happening to people .

anti fungal creams help but no treatment to get rid of it cause the what is it is not known.

If you buy a 30X handheld lighted microscope you can then use that to see your skin . See if you find tiny thread like filaments in your skin .. then show a doctor the fibers with printed stuff from morgellons.org

I have had great remission since being on tetracycline 1000mg a day for a year but you have to get the doctor to see the fibers cause they will not look for them I hope its not morgellons but email me for hints on relief at nomof3@yahoo.com . I cant offer a fix only relief feel better

Why can't I fit in with others?

Hello, and thank you for reading this.

I am a 23 year old college student and have the most wonderful girlfriend who I get along with great. I feel that in general, as a shy person, I do not fit in with others, that is, people my age group and even others of similar interest to me. At school I feel much more mature and goal oriented than my peers. I went to a metal concert with my girlfriend and we did not have a good time because we didn't "blend in" and people acted very rude to us...pushing/shoving/standing in front of us. My girlfriend has a skin condition that causes her to have acne appearing tumors on her face, and everyone stares at her, making most public situations in general awkward. I feel that I (or we both) are possibly way to mature for our age and because we don't drink/smoke/whatever we don't fit in (not that we would do anything to that is). I feel that society is becoming more "corrupt" and this is simply a sign of the end of times (the comming of Christ). Help...

Why can't I fit in with others?
I'm 21. I'm just like you, "shy." And I have certain standards for myself as well.

I think its hard for us to take to others, and since we feel people aren't like us and do things we aren't cool with- I think that puts us in defense mode.

So instead of opening up to new people, we are quick to say they are negative and dislike us, whether its a fact or not. And how are you gonna enjoy yourself at that concert if you felt like everyone hated you? If you tried to just live in the moment with the rest of the crowd, you'd feel better.

I think its like "fight or flight" defense mechnism. I go clubbing with my friends, but I don't like talking to the guys that come on to us. And those guys nag me about it and I get upset. I feel those guys are rowdy and annoying. But if I would've made small talk with them, like my friends had, I probably would've enjoyed myself more-cuz those guys wouldn't accuse me of having an attitude.

But then again its my right to act how I want, just like they have rights. I just think things would've been smoother if I weren't so judgemental.

And for your girlfriend's sake try to be a bit more outgoing, like I mentioned before, how can we have fun with people if we think they hate us???

If people are staring at your girlfriend, just hold her closer and make her feel safe. She has to be more outgoing as well. Sometimes when we get shy and defensive, we are critical to people...who sometimes turn out to be not so bad, even if they drink or smoke, that's their business-as long as they don't pressure you to join them.

Your girlfriend might interact with cool people, everyone gets stared at or talked about, the world is just that negative and catty. But you two have each other! And surely you two aren't the only nice people out there, you have to be open minded.

Try it! You might enjoy yourself next time out. I think I'll try my own advice this weekend, lol.
Reply:My question to you is why would you want to fit in with others who has such a different life style as yours and your girlfriend? I would want to avoid them, not be among them. Stay with people who believe as you do, and you will find the approval and support system you need from others your own age.
Reply:Thank God you have your girlfriend. You are too mature for those mindless kids. Find music you like. Find movies you like. Find social groups that interest you. You're 23. That's past high school and the need to fit in. Find people with similar interests as you and your gilrfriend. She will not have acne her whole life. She likes you and you see beyond the superficial. Be yourself. Do what you love. You will be much happier that way. Good luck!
Reply:I will leave this quote by the great Oakland California rapper Too Short "Get in, where you fit in."

I think it is self explanatory.

My niece has Keratosis Pilaris...has anyone found any products that work?

Keratosis Pilaris is a skin condition often found on the back of arms. It is hereditary %26amp; caused by a back up of protein or keratin in the hair follicles causing an acne-looking or bumpy appearance.

1. I took her to a Dermatologist, who prescribed Pro Lactin this didn't work.

2. If you have had success list products %26amp; regimen you followed.

3. Any tips would help, she is getting ready to go back to school this month %26amp; desperately needs help!!Thanks so much!!!

My niece has Keratosis Pilaris...has anyone found any products that work?
I have ichthyosis vulgaris, a condition that often goes hand-in-hand with keratosis pilaris (which I also have, but on my thighs and not my arms). I was prescribed Am-Lactin rather than Pro-Lactin and I've never had a problem with the way it works.

Other than that, I recommend getting her a GREAT body exfoliator to use in the shower. Maybe something from Bath %26amp; Body Works, or better yet something medicated from a drug store or a place like that.

After she uses the exfoliating scrub in the shower (and tell her to scrub scrub scrub those arms, GENTLY but thoroughly, and not so it hurts or burns), put some of the Am-Lactin on it. If not Am-Lactin, try cocoa butter, which works great. If neither one of them, try Jergens Moisturizing body lotion with exfoliating beads.

I hope that works, and if you need anything else, feel free to e-mail me! kokopelli86@gmail.com. :)
Reply:I used chinese herbs and it works
Reply:Try here: http://www.helpforkp.com/
Reply:The best thing to do is shower twice a day, exfoliate with a rough mitt (the rougher the better) and smother the affected area with LOTS of body lotion.

If she does this for a week or two, then she should notice a huge difference. After that, it's a matter of continuing the same routine with daily showers.

Sunshine seems to help too, don't ask me why.

Teenagers very commonly have it, but grow out of it by adulthood usually... if it's keratosis pilaris alba, particularly.

Thin eyebrows from alopecia, any way to make them full again?

ten years ago i got a skin condition called Alopecia Areata, i lost patches of hair on my head, arms, eyelashes and eyebrows, my eyebrows and eyelashes completely went away, my eyelashes are finally growing back (really short but theyre back)

however, my eyebrows are really thin, not dark like they used to be, and very very sparse

is there any way to make them grow fuller and thicker (i know thats the opposite of what most women want these days)

help me, ive had to draw in my eyebrows for ten years and i just want real ones

Thin eyebrows from alopecia, any way to make them full again?
I Don't think there is anything that you can do to make your eyebrows grow back. However, if you are tired of drawing on eyebrows, have you thought about getting them tattooed on?! Search around your area for a cosmetic tattooist! they numb the skin first with numbing cream and it's not painful at all.

I have very thin eyelashes so i had eyelash enhancement (tattooing right along eyelash line to make them look fuller) and tattooed eyeliner done. Believe me....i absolultely love it!

and depending on where you are, prices may vary. Here i paid 150 dollars for my eyeliner. Typically i believe eyebrows run around 250. This price usually also includes follow up visit for touch ups!
Reply:I had that condition 20 years ago. I'm not sure how you can get your eyebrows to grow in thicker. I lost my eyebrows too, but luckily they grew back the same. I wore a wig for 8 months because I was too selfconscoius about being bald. My hair ended up growing in white, it used to be dark brown. My hair grows really slowly now, which sucks!!
Reply:Recent studies from late last year have found some positive response from utilising hypnotherapy with Alopecia Areata. It is new research and mainly focussed on hair growth on the scalp. It would be worth a try if you found a good practitioner.

Warm Regards,

David

I have always had these little tiny bumps on my upper arm, like from the shoulder to my elbow?

does anyone know, what kind of skin condition this could be ? i was told by a doctor , that i was born with them , but i forgot what he called these tiny bumps??

I have always had these little tiny bumps on my upper arm, like from the shoulder to my elbow?
I don't know what they are called but I have them too and I found putting lition on them at least everyday keeps them at bay for the most part...Good Luck!
Reply:No it's some technical term I have them too.
Reply:it might be ezhyma...i really dont know how to spell it, but i know what you are talking about
Reply:my boyfriend has them.. i think theyre cute.

sorry, that really had nothing to do with your question.

:S

all i know is that when he went on holiday 2 a hot place for 2 weeks, they went, but came back after 2 days.

but its fine. dont worry about it.
Reply:those are rash : they can be caused by using wrong kind of

soap bar and usally irritations like that should be treated as needed! but best results get http://www.medicatedcream/aloe.com
Reply:They could be tiny ingrown hairs. I get those sometimes because my shirt sleeves rub against my upper arms so much. Try exfoliating your skin and see if it helps.
Reply:I have the same thing. If they have white on the end, its pipmles, if they dont, its the oppisite, realy dry skin. Or if it comes in large rash like spots its called Exzema, a skin condition, that basicly means unnaturaly dry skin, and there are lotions for it.
Reply:It is called keratosis piliaris, and it is inhertied. It is also very common, and tends to be worse during puberty. People who have this, may also have eczema, and dry skin. Some doctors reccomend lactic acid lotion, but be careful it can be irritating
Reply:i have this all over my arms and exfoliating and lotion help the most
Reply:I'm not sure what they are called but I own a spa and I have many clients with this problem. I have one cure for you. I have a treatment at the Spa which is a full body dead sea mud mask. Mud from the dead sea is and amazing treatment. You have the mud massaged onto your skin and allow it to dry then wash it off. This mud just about treats any skin disorder, especially the small bumps y ou are referring to. Many people travel directly to the Dead Sea for treatments. Try it, there is nothing to lose. Make sure the mud you use is 100% pure and unprocessed. It will work the best that way.

Would u consider a girl with eczema attractive?

Many people have said that i'm gorgeous but unfortunately i suffer from eczema. As a result my self esteem is pretty low. I'm also frustrated that i cant wear pretty dresses or skirts. I'm also afraid guys might reject me once they find out that i suffer from a skin condition.

Would u consider a girl with eczema attractive?
i have friends who have it too....it doesn't effect them any. any guy who is disgusted or disencouraged in any way whatsoever isn't worth it. u don't want a guy who's only gonna literally look skin deep...i know its corny an it sounds like a soap opera or somethin but its true....in 2005 i had an accident on a motorcycle that left 45% of mylegs scarred. pavement burn. basically parts of my thighs an calves are darker than the rest of my skin an are a little spotty...guess what?? i still wear skirts an skimpy shorts lol....when u let ur condition get to u, that's when guys are gonna be disencouraged, but if you show that it doesn't bother you an that you are who you are!!! then they'll say hey!! shes sexi!! XD dont let it get to ya. if someone tells u ur gorgeous, then accept it an feel good about urself instead of worrying if its true or not.
Reply:My mom had eczema when she was younger but I'm lucky that i don't have it. Anyways if a guy did reject you because of your skin condition then he's not worth your time anyways. There will be guys who won't care though. Good luck with eczema. My mom uses Retin A (google it) by the way and it works well. Good luck!
Reply:No. A man will love you for who you are. They don't notice the flaws and when they do they find them endearing.

I mean look around, how many guys have girlfriends with big noses and hairy arms and big feet - they are comepletely blind to it. Love IS blind they say.
Reply:My sister suffered from bad eczema condition and went to see the dr. one day and he gave her this cream that she used and hasnt had a trace for years until now, wich she started again now and it sill works =] x

Anyone have or know someone who has pn (perigo nodularis)?

Would like to actually talk to someone that shares this skin condition.

Anyone have or know someone who has pn (perigo nodularis)?
Prurigo nodularis is a condition that we know very little about. Most doctors treat it with potent prescription steroid creams, antihistamine creams (Zonalon, Pramoxine) or pills (Atarax, Periactin).

Non-prescription Zostrix cream helps many of those not improved with the usual treatment.

I have no idea what the first answerer was talking about.

My puppy died last night. How have you dealt with the loss of a pet?

We had just gotten her Saturday. She had worms and coccydia, some kind of skin condition (the vet wanted to wait until she was getting proper nutrition to see if that was the problem), and she wouldnt eat (we fed her baby formula with a syringe). We were expecting that she wouldnt make it, but still hoped that she would. For those of you who have lost a pet, how did you deal with it?

My puppy died last night. How have you dealt with the loss of a pet?
crying helps. also, and this may sound crazy, but when my dog died, and when my rabbit died, i felt i needed someone to tell about the greef, so i spoke to my dog and rabbit. i told them how my day was and then told them that i missed them and said goodnight. it does help becuase you can think they can hear you just like when they were alive. i know it sounds childish but it does help.

im sooooooo sorry to hear about your loss!
Reply:time and tears. not much else. I'm really sorry for loss.
Reply:Im sorry! You did not have her that long. Maybe wait a few weeks and get another pup.
Reply:GET ANOTHER ONE
Reply:Well, when my dog died at age 11 I was sad for a long time, but like any type of greif, over time healing occured. Some days I get a little teary thinking of her, but usually we can just happily talk about her and the things she did. In your case, I would suggest rescuing another dog, maybe not a puppy, since older dogs have such a hard time and are so often put to sleep at the pound. Maybe you could save 2 dogs from the pound!!
Reply:Thats too bad. However, I am glad that you did not spend years loving this animal because it would really tear you up. I have lost 2 dogs in the last 2 years. One of which, I had for a very long time. The day after he died, I took my favorite picture of him to a tattooist and had him tattoo it on the side of my leg where my dog was always standing. I also took the rest of his pix, and of his other dog friends and made a collage. Last week, I had to have my other dog creamated. I will be putting his ashes and favorite squeaky toys in my glass cabinet for everyone to see. I will also be having his name tattooed under the other dog.
Reply:Thats a tough question, everyone mourns in different ways. I lost a cat very violently a few years ago and I remember mourning for him much the same as I do a person. I remember sleeping a lot. What made it worse was we ended up in a legal battle with the vet who "treated" him. It was miserable.
Reply:I'm so sorry to hear about your puppy.
Reply:Sorry for your loss, how long did you have your pet? The longer the harder it is to deal with it, she was little, get another pet and it will be easier, in two months you'll feel better.
Reply:Losing a pet is hard and a lot of people don't understand how to deal with grief properly. I'd have a memorial service (even if it's just you) so you can say goodbye. I've written poems or art. Give it some time and then find another dog. No one can take your puppy's place, but a new puppy can help ease the loss.

There's some great tips at this site:
Reply:That is sooo terrible. My cat had kittens and the entire litter died! It was the worst thing in the world to see all those tiny kitties blindly crawling away from their mother to go die. It still brings tears to my eyes. I just cried about it...alot. There is nothing else you can do. Just know in your heart that you tried your best. Feel better! *sniffle*
Reply:My dog died last year at age 12 . I had him since he was 6 months old and I cried forever eventhough I knew it was coming and I wasen't living at home anymore. I felt so bad b/c i left him with my mother I just couldn't take him to where I was located at that time b/c it was so hot and humid all the time and he had so much fur. I think about him from time to time and I just try not to cry. I just hope when I get to heaven he'll be there waiting for me .
Reply:I never had my own pet pass away yet. I have a Labrador retriever and she's one year old. However, about 5 years ago my grandpa's dog died. I really loved the dog because I knew her all my life and was around her all the time when I was being babysat by my grandparents. I cried for days because I missed her. I finally stopped crying when I got over the loss but it took a long time. I still miss her. I'm sorry to hear about your puppy. Maybe when things get better you can take in a new puppy. Its okay to feel sad about things like this.
Reply:i dealt with it by calling Geico for auto insurance

Ladies Help Me Out........?

My boyfriend for the last six months is simply amazeing. He does everything he possibly can to make me happy. he loves me and i love him. We havent had sex yet. Anyways. Yesterday he told me he has a skin condition callled Fordyce spots on his penis. He showed me some websites to confirm and offered to go again for std testing if it would make me more confortable. I know he doesnt have std's because everyone knows he is a virgin. plus he went once before and the doctor confirmed. anyways. these thing are ugley. the pics on the internet are disqusting. His are not even close but he said over the last 4 years they have steadily got worse.

Now i find myself in a confusion of feelings before he told me this i thought i knew i loved him and even have had thoughts of sex and marraige. now i dont know what. i am very confused.

Should i leave him. Or demand a test and stay with him. Ladies put yourself in my shoes and tell me what i should do please.

Thanx much

Ladies Help Me Out........?
if you are confused about your feelings, then I'm sorry but i don't believe it was love. When you love someone you shouldnt have to think twice about anything. Including if he has fordyce, that shouldnt change your feelings.
Reply:i believe you should tell him your feeling about it and tell him that you want him to get tested just to be safe you have stuck beside him for this long.
Reply:I know that it's mean, but if i was in your shoes i would leave him. I'm sorry but i would leave him. Would he stay with you if you had the same problem or something like that?...I think sex is soooo important in life and with this problem you are not gonna enjoy having sex with him. Imagine..!!

Before falling in love with him, end this relationship. I know it's hard. but if you don't do it now, you will probably do it in the future. So, why not now?
Reply:Based on this, which I read online...

"Fordyce spots are normal large, superficial sebaceous (oil-producing) glands seen on the moist tissue that lines some organs and body cavities (mucosal surfaces). The "spots" are asymptomatic and can be found on the head of the penis, the inner foreskin, and, most commonly, at the border of the lips. These sebaceous glands are not associated with hair follicles. These lesions are asymptomatic, but itching or irritation may occur if people treat the bumps inappropriately."

"Fordyce spots: small (1-5mm) bright red or purple papules that can appear on the glans, shaft or scrotum and usually affect younger men. They may occur as a solitary lesion, but frequently appear in crops of 50 to 100. They are painless and not itchy, but may cause embarrassment because of their appearance, or a fear that they might be sexually transmitted. They are abnormally dilated blood vessels, covered by thickened skin. They may bleed if injured or even during intercourse. They are not infectious and their cause is unknown. Although a number of approaches have been tried, there is no simple, reliable treatment to remove them. Troublesome bleeding spots can be sealed with a device that uses a small electric current (electrocautery)."

It sounds like your boyfriend has had them checked, diagnosed, and is telling you the truth. He is confiding in you, and looking for your support. If he has offered, and it makes you feel better, have him get an STD check. Otherwise, I think I would just accept it and him.

What is isdn and how does it facilitatethe internet users to access yahoo easily?

What is intergrated subscriber digital network that facilitates the internet users to surf and at the same time use phone, consumer electronics, entertainment and music, mobile phones plans, education and references, local business, gamesand recreation,computersandinternet,business... finance,allergencies,cancer,diabetetes,h... diseases, std.respiratory diseases, skin condition and others

What is isdn and how does it facilitatethe internet users to access yahoo easily?
ISDN is Integrated SERVICES Digital Network.

There's a good explanation and tutorial here: http://www.ralphb.net/ISDN/defs.html

What it is NOT is a disease (so why is it in this category?).

The services it integrates are voice and data and it does this digitally (that is in pulses of ons and offs rather than using a constantly varying voltage, which is called analogue) over a normal phone line. It is a network because each subscriber's line is connected to a network and allocated its own address on the network.

The connection to the network by your ISDN provider allows you to have (usually) a phone connection and an internet connection delivered to you on the same line - there is some clever stuff that sorts out which is which.

Of course, being connected to the Internet, you can do all sorts of things such as the research you mentioned, play games, listen to music and ask and answer questions.

If you had a Cable connection (rather than an ISDN connection on a normal phone line) you could also add cable TV delivered to your television set rather than through an aerial or satellite dish.
Reply:International Subsciber Dialling Number. This is used when international calls are made in land line.If you want to call from USA to Australia ,ISDN is used.

Treatment for ILVEN?

I have a rare skin condition called ILVEN. I was wondering if anyone had it and had done something to help treat it (apparently there is no cure) I've had surgery that got rid of the majority of it but I still have little areas that they couldn't remove.

Treatment for ILVEN?
Please tell me what the initials stand for and/or what the symptoms are, I am not familiar with it, thanks!

My whole body keeps itching, sometimes I get these mosquito-bite-looking bumps?

About 3 weeks ago I got an itch in my pubic area, I put some lotion on it for about 3 days and then it went away. About 2 days later I started getting an itch all over my body. In some spots I'd get a mosquito-bite-looking bump after scraching it. I got one on my leg, a side of my torso and the bottom part of the stomach. Then they'd stop itching but stay for about 5-6 more days. It started when i was taking antibiotic since I got sick and I thought it was the reason but I havent taken those for a while and this itch just won't go away. I eat the same stuff as I used to and live in the same environment, work at the same place. Nothing new in other words. Why do I have this skin condition?

My whole body keeps itching, sometimes I get these mosquito-bite-looking bumps?
I travel a lot and when up north where space heaters are required, I get the itch after approx. 1 week. Legs and butt mostly.

I tryed everything but finely after years found out that it was from dry skin. And shows up in dry envoroments. If thats your problem, use lots of skin lotion.
Reply:it sounds like a staph infection, every time your body checks it, it comes around another way, my friends daughter got it from her razor she used to shave with, I've even heard of people getting it from using antibacterial soap
Reply:Go to the doctor. Please dont second guess the bumps.

It could be scabies, it could be excema, dermatitis , anything.

It could be an allergic reaction to the antibiotic you used.. Go back to the doctor who prescribed the antibiotic.
Reply:I had something that sounds very similar. I thought I was getting bitten in my sleep. I went to the dermatologist and he diagnosed it as folliculitis. An oral antibiotic cleared it up quickly.

Is this mange?

My german shepherd (not quite two years old) is kenneled much of the day because he's an aggressive chewer and we live in cold northern climate. Months ago, I noticed he was losing a little bit of fur on his legs and thought it was from being in the kennel. Now, there is more fur gone and it looks like he has white rings around his eyes...all of a sudden. He also looks "dirty" because he has tiny white specks all over his coat (he's totally black so everything shows up). Does this sound like an allergy or mange? When he was small puppy he had skin condition on his belly that was red and splotchy but that was treated. Maybe it never went away?

Is this mange?
It sounds like mange, my dog had the same problem but my vet believed since he was a pitbull he was also a fighting dog and blamed the patches on his skin as scars from fighting (What an idiot!) Anyway, my neighbor said it was mange and recommend I use motor oil and rub it down on my dog and it actually worked! And he never suffered again.
Reply:Could be demodectic mange which can resurface but the only way to be sure is take him to the vet for a skin scrape.
Reply:he may have skin aleergies from the cold climate try using a humidifer in your house for the icthy dry skin, and find food without corn in it ,many dogs are allergic to corn

Infected Dog, possibly mange or other? kind of long please read.?

My uncle has seen a dog that has been tied up and very neglected (which I call abuse). He wants to take the dog to a good home (the owner is willing to give him up) but the dog seems to have a skin condition. He has patches of fur missing on his legs and he is very very they would call it peel-y (or sore, sensitive, exposed, peeling or whatever) The dog has been chained to a pipe in the basement and the harness is far far too tight (my grandmother can't even fit one finger between the dog and the harness and it seems to be cutting in to him) We want to help him but my uncle has his own dog and no one will take a sick dog. I f you have any idea about what it might be that he has it could help (we are going to consult a vet but we would like to have some idea as to what the dog might have before we do so (vets are very expensive and we don't want to infect any other dogs in the waiting room). Thnx! He really is a great dog.

Infected Dog, possibly mange or other? kind of long please read.?
The skin condition could be mange or an allergic reaction to the harness. It could also just be a skin condition that is easily cured with one round of antibiotics. Treating mange can be a bit costly. There is one type of mange that is given to the dog 72 hours after birth from its mother. It can NOT be cured, only suppressed, but it isn't contagious to other dogs. There is another type of mange that is easily cured but IS contagious to other dogs. Watch for open sores and infection. The dog probably just needs a good bath, some love, a round of antibiotics, and a collar that doesn't fit so tight. I would keep the dog separate for now and don't put anything on the patches of skin that is missing hair. I'm sure whatever the dog has is not contagious to humans. Try giving him a bath and letting him air dry really well. The spots will feel better to him if they dry very well. Moisture might make more infection. Good Luck and yall are good people for taking in a dog.

Baby has lizard legs?

My 5 month old baby's legs are incredibly dry. I've tried various baby creams and baby oil and to improve their general texture and it's made little impact. It's weird because it seems to be JUST his legs. He's been like this for a while but I dismissed it in the earlier months as something like cradle cap, now I'm wondering if it a permanent skin condition. There is no discolouration or scabbing...it's like he's got goosebumps all the time. Has anyone else have experience with this?

Baby has lizard legs?
Hi! Well my son has had dry skin on account that he was born he in a high elevation dry mountain climate and most everybody has issues with dry skin but especially the little ones.

My doctor recommended that I use dove moisturizing soap ONLY at bath time with my son. He said the baby soap products and lotion do not work at all and tend to make it worse for little ones with really dry skin. So I started using Dove and whenever I take him from the tub, I immediately rub about a nickel size of vaseline on his dryest areas that are still quite DAMP. It actually works good but if you dry him off and then apply it, it just makes everything super sticky and oily and the dampness is the combination of moisture that somehow locks it in without leaving that stickier feeling.

Also I have observed that people who have darker skin usually have to use some serious moisturizers because my husband is really dark complected and if he doesn't use the same bit of vaseline on his skin after his baths, or washing his face, he said it irritates him.

There is no lotion product out there that really works in the way of moisturizing as we may be led to think, like lubriderm with the alligator, its just not true!

What works really well for me personally is that I mix my own version of skin product to moisturize myself. I use vaseline intensive care therapy lotion along with a finger tip of real vaseline especially when I have been washing my hands a lot and notice that they are getting super dry. It really works best and the reason is because real vaseline locks in the moisture and protects the skin even when it is washed constantly.

Try this method and avoid oils, and other medicated type products. Because those are not always fomulated for small babies and some herbal type ingredients could be harmful or make it worse. If the vaseline method doesn't improve things after about a week of doing it continuously, then you need to talk to your doctor about it. Because it could be a skin condition that needs to be medically treated with specific medicated skin products. So leave that to a professional because they usually know which things are safest and best for your baby. I really think the vaseline will work for you. If it doesn't then it is definitely something that needs to be checked by a doctor.
Reply:I've never had that sort of experience, but this site may help you:

Reply:could be an allergy or skin reaction. Bring it up at your next well baby check up. They may have to give him some prescription cream like hidrocordizone or something. I wouldnt worry too much unless it gets red and sore.
Reply:He could have eczema. My daughter had it as a baby, and still does. Have you tried a little vaseline? And, the soap and other lotions you are using on him may be making it worse. I would ask your doc about it, but you should use the non-fragrance, non-alcohol, free-n-clear types of soap and lotion for him. I also noticed that the less she was bathed, the better her skin was because it built up it's natural oils. Ease up on the baths if you are bathing him everyday. Good luck!!
Reply:u should try this stuf the specialist gave to help my daughters dermatitis. its Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream.it works really well to replace moisture to her skin. i used it on her upper arms, which also looked goosebumpy. the condition you are descibing is eczema or dermatitis, depending on where you live. they are both one in the same. a locoid solution can also be used but only in extreme cases.
Reply:I get that on my upper arms. I have to exfoliate a lot and moisturize all the time.

I highly recommend a cream called Glaxal Base. It is used as a base for many prescription creams. It is perfume free and dye free and non-greasy so it won't make matters worse! It is safe for use on infants.
Reply:use Ego QV Bath Oil in every bath twice daily. it worked wonders for my bubba's dry skin!
Reply:If its little pimple like things...there isn't much you can do for him. My son has the same problem. I have antibiotic cream in case they get inflamed...but my son has seen all kinds of specialists, and they have told me that he will have to wait and grow out of it.

Help! How to get rid of eczema and psoriasis?

I have a terrible skin condition - eczema and psoriasis. Different patches are all over my face, arms and legs!

Can anyone help me?

Help! How to get rid of eczema and psoriasis?
Definitely see a dermatologist for best treatment. My boyfriend also suffers with eczema and he's found relief with the topical cream "Elidel" (available by prescription). Also, I've recently bought him Eucerin Calming Creme, which he applies right after he gets out of the shower. This has helped too. Remember, always avoid unprotected sun exposure, very hot showers, soaps, and fragrances--as these will aggrevate the problem futher. Try to wear 100% cotton as often as possible, as this will let the skin breathe. Maybe even try a humidifier in dry or cold weather, which will help with dry skin.

Reply:See a doctor, there are many ways to help people with this condition.
Reply:,I've suffered from psoriasis for the past twenty years now. Have been prescribed topical creams and ointments known to man kind. Unfortunately, there's nothing really over the counter that will really work. You'll have to go to the dermatologist to get before it really gets out of control. At one point and time my body was 85% covered, talk about pure out right misery..lol...I now give myself injections once a week to keep it under control. It's called Raptiva, and thus far it's under control. Please, go to the doctor before it gets worse. Try going to the tanning bed, or lay out in the sun between the hours of 10am-12pm, when the sun isn't the strongest, because if you burn, it'll cause a flare up. Also, try soaking in Upsome Salt before going to bed. It'll dehydrate your skin, so make sure you moisturize after bathing with vaseline, which will keep the patches on you legs from drying out and cracking, which is painfull. Hopfully I've given some insight. I can't stress enough though that you have to go to the dermatologist before it gets any worse...good luck!!..one more thing, try taking some benadryhl before going to bed to help with the itch.
Reply:I have psoriasis on my legs and scalp. I had my first ever flair up 3 years ago. After trying so many creams and after alot of money I decided to hire a home solarium. I used it 10 minutes each side a day and in about 3 weeks not only was I very nice and brown, but my psoriasis was cleared! I know that you can never get rid of it but this works really well! So every time I get a flare up, I just re hire it. Hope this helps and good luck.

PSORIASIS IS AVOIDABLE

Psoriasis Is definitely an Autoimmune system failure, your body is telling you that's it simply cannot cope with what you are feeding it. I doubt whether l will ever meet a psoriasis sufferer whom isn't a celiac (intolerant to gluten). But there can be many other reasons why your immune system is not coping. There's no mystery as to the psoriasis itself Acrylamide (which is created when high temperatures between the amino acid "asparagine" and the sugar glucose especially in foods such as french fries, potato chips, bakery and cereal products), does play a role in psoriasis as do the food addictives (citrics). By eliminating these from your diet your psoriasis will clear up. This has been validated time and time again.

By using a tissue plasminogen activator it is possible to analyse the difference in normal and (psoriasis) pathological skin samples. The difference is a high calcium medium is found in pathological skin samples, in normal skin samples very little calcium is found in comparison.

This indeed makes sense as the most common sites of psoriasis especially plague psoriasis (the most common form of psoriasis) are of local trauma sites

This is also known as the “Koebner phenomenon

A BALANCE DIET IS THE KEY TO MANY HEALTH BENEFITS.

Natural whole foods have a package of nutrients and many beneficial factors that are not found in supplements. You won't find the essential elements in calcium ascorbate (VC) as you would in a real orange. An orange contains Vitamin C. with carotene, calcium, folate and fibre. There are other reasons for getting our nutrients from foods than supplements. There is no evidence that taking supplements can give you the same protection. Vitamin supplements to be avoided, especially Ascorbic Acid-Vitamin C (Food Additive Code 300) and Calcium Ascorbate (Food Additive Code E302).

Natural foods give you components that increase nutrient absorption in the body.

Supplements can reduce absorption of other nutrients

What many people don't realise is the nature of acrylamide is to bind and is responsible for the formation of Psoriasis.

Any natural cures for eczema?

I've had this since I was a child. It's not horrible but it's a real pain. Know of anything that has worked well for you, your children or anyone you know? Apparently, this is a pretty common skin condition.

Any natural cures for eczema?
You might try upping your intake of foods high in essential fatty acids. I take evening primrose capsules when I start feeling an outbreak coming. You can get it at any health food store and some large supermarkets. It's one of the richest sources of gamma-linolenic acid, which is a precursor to one the fatty acids your body needs. (And when I DO have an outbreak, I'll actually cut open a capsule and just put the EPO right onto my skin.)

You can try a low-chemical diet but, in all honesty, I didn't find it all that helpful.

Red blotches on my chest....?!?

Ok, I have never had any really bad acne or skin condition but all of the sudden I am getting red blotches all over my chest...what are they?? and should i be worried??? they are kinda itchy as well.

Red blotches on my chest....?!?
Sounds like shingles. I had this problem several years ago and they were very itchy for me. Get some calamine lotion and apply it to the blotches. Also, try to relax. Shingles can be caused by stress.
Reply:i have been getting rashes on my chest and breasts and they look like bruises, and my doctor can;t find out why.she says heat rash;rash;soap,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,i hope yours goes away.mine has been with me since summer,,,,,,lol
Reply:It could be shingles as the previous reader stated, but it can also be other conditions as well. I had a simlar issue and it turned out to be tinea corporis, or fungal vitiligo. The spots appear red, flat at first and then become slightly raised. If you get a tan the spots remain lighter than the tanned skin around the spots. They itched a little as well. I was given a heavy-duty antifungal cream, Nizoral 12% to fix it. They have over the counter Nizoral now, but it is not as strong.

I would go to your doctor and find out what it is before getting treated. I don't think that it is anything really serious that you should be afraid to see your doctor about. Just go in and get it treated.

My Face Is As Oily As Ever!!! help!?

the thing is... My dad has a skin condition (only on his face when he can't control the size of his pores or the oil that comes out) I am the female version of him and I know I'm going to get it! It's really bad and I already cant control the oil on my face already! please help! I don't want to get it... I think it's spelled Rosatia

My Face Is As Oily As Ever!!! help!?
Your fathers condition is called ROSACEA. Here is a web site about it:

http://www.rosacea.org

You should make sure the products you are using are pH correct, which is so important to your skin. Our skin is natural about a 7.0 on the pH scale from 1-14. Most bar soaps or anti-bacterial soaps have a higher pH, which helps them to foam and gives you that squeaky clean feeling. People with oily skin especially like this feeling as it dries up and removes a lot of the oil from the skin. The problem is, in oily skin people whose skin already produces more oil than they need, by removing so much of the oil from the surface of the skin, the oil glands are sent a message to produce more oil and it becomes a viscous cycle of over drying the skin with high pH cleansers and the skin trying to defend itself by producing too much oil. In people with a dry skin which does not produce enough oil of its own, using a high pH cleanser such as soap only further dries out the skin. The oil on the skin is there to protect the skin from the environment and helps to combat aging. By using a pH correct product such as Arbonne, you are not sending your skin to extremes but instead are keeping it well balanced.

For Oily skin I would recommend ARBONNE INTELLIGENCE LINE. This is a 5-step system for the skin. It includes a pH correct cleanser that removes dirt and oil without stripping skin of its vital moisture barrier. An exfoliating thermal fusion masque that increases microcirculation and cell proliferation. It is a product that combines the benefits of a scrub and a masque for deep cleaning. The next product is a toner that helps to constrict pores without drying or upsetting the skins moisture barrier. Then an eye cream that is fast absorbing and contains light reflecting properties to help reduce puffiness and fine lines. Finally a day and night moisturizer that self adjusts to your skin and delivers however much moisture you need.

There is a specialty product in this line called a Personalizer. It is designed to absorb oil before you moisturize or apply make up. It helps keep the oil under control as well as keeping your foundation true to its color.

Here are a few other good things for your skin:

Diet affects everything in our bodies. It plays a vital role in how you look, feel and of course how you age.

Eating right to keep your skin soft, glowing and strong at any age:

·Orange/red fruits and vegetables: can include tomatoes, squash and carrots- these are packed with beta-carotene, which is an antioxidant that is essential for healthy skin, scalp and mucous membranes.

·Shellfish and fish: try salmon, crab, shrimp and lobster- contain astaxanthin, an extremely potent antioxidant that protects your skin from the damaging environment, helps prevent age spots and wrinkling.

·Nuts and seeds- these are rich in vitamin E which helps protect the skin from sun damage

·Citrus fruits- such as oranges, grapefruits, are high in Vitamin C. It is essential to collagen production, and it is the collagen that gives connective tissue strength and resilience.

·Unrefined whole grain- these could be wheat, barley, oats and rye- all contain silica, a mineral that helps to repair damaged skin, hair and nails. Silica helps to strengthen collagen and elastin.

Anti-Aging Super- Foods:

Top pick for this category include any deeply pigmented fruits and vegetables. This includes tomatoes, spinach, cabbage, broccoli, berries and grapes, garlic, onions, green tea, soybean, cold-water fish and spices such as turmeric, cinnamon and cumin.

All of these are very rich in PHYTOCHEMICALS. These are the molecules that give the food the striking color, taste or smell. Their responsibility is to defend the plants against infection and environmental damage, and in humans they have shown to have anticancer activity. And, just like antioxidants, they help protect the body against harmful free radicals and vascular disease.

These foods also contain omega-3 fatty acids. These fatty acids help lower cholesterol, improve insulin sensitivity, reduce inflammation and facilitate weight loss. Dark leafy greens, cold water fish and soybean are an excellent source of omega 3 fatty acids.

They are also considered “hot” foods – they help the body burn calories in the form of heat, just by eating them.

Three key elements to help your skin look its best:

·Avoid the damaging sun: with 90% of aging caused by environmental damage and sun exposure, ensure that you wear a product that contains a broad-spectrum sun block, and use it every day. Harmful sunrays penetrate clouds…so sun block is needed on cloudy days as well. Arbonne uses the latest in sunscreen technology in their day creams to ensure that you are protected from both the UVB and UVA rays.

·Practice good skin care: Using skin care products incorrectly can cause problems later in life. Learn how to remove make-up, and apply sunscreen to let skin breath. Follow up with exfoliation to encourage skin cell turnover, and finish with a light moisturizer to protect the skin’s water barrier.

·Don’t mix brands: With hundreds of skin care products launched each year, it’s no wonder that many of us try the latest products…however that can lead to skin irritation and the development of sensitive skin. Skin care products need time to work, and as your body becomes accustomed to the formulas …you will see benefit. Each brand develops products to work together for best results. Pick a brand and stick with it.
Reply:Ask a doctor, they usually have the CORRECT answer!
Reply:I have the same problem, I used proactiv it helped a little but once it gets the hang of your skin it stops working.
Reply:Do some research on the topic ( with google or yahoo). Actually spend some time researching instead of being on the phone or watching T.V.

You will be surprised at how much information you find. Yahoo answers is not really the place to ask about this stuff.
Reply:go to a dermatologist, is the best advice.
Reply:You'll need to talk with a dermatologist, but for now proactiv could help. The biggest thing until you can see a dermatologist is cleaning away the oil without over drying your skin.
Reply:You could try seeing a dermatologist, they might be able to give you several options that might help. I myself am 23 and still have oily skin, it drives me crazy! Nothing has really helped me; if you wash your face too much, it just gets oilier because when you keep washing your face (and especially if you use a harsh cleanser), it starts to dry your skin. To compensate, your skin will actually produce more oil... Ridiculous, I know.

Oil blotters (try Clean %26amp; Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets--I use the generic brand, but they are still good) are good for absorbing excess oil throughout the day. Follow up with some oil-absorbing face powder, that helps to make your skin look matte and staves the oil off a little longer. Avoid humid places--that really exacerbates the problem. Try to find a good oil-fighting cleanser; if you're acne prone as well, find one with Salicylic Acid.

I pretty much have resolved myself to the fact that my skin is going to stay like this until who-knows-when, and for now, the above is pretty much all I can do to keep it in some control.

Hope this helps... Good luck!
Reply:read tips on skincare and much more to help you better with home remedies on this site
Reply:I have naturally very oily skin. This is what I have been doing for the last 1.5 months. My face is no longer oily, feels and looks great.

Let's break the day up.

Morning:

Fill a sink with HOT water. The hotter the better. Add a good amount of Epsom Salt.

I soak my face for about 90-120 seconds coming up for breaths about every 20 seconds. Your face will feel great, and won't be oily. I then jump into a nice hot shower.

Mid day or after work/school or whenever you have time:

Do another soak same as above, at about half the time. This soak is not as important, but if your face starts getting oily this is very good too do.

At night before bed:

Same soak as morning.

Also at least every other night I do an aspirin mask. Go to the store and pick up a bottle of UNCOATED aspirin. That's very important. Pick up a container of PLAIN yogurt and a lemon.

1.I have a little bowl/cup to mix in.

2.I take less than a spoonful on yogurt and place it in the cup.

3.You'll find out you don't need much yogurt.

4.I add 7-9 aspirin to the yogurt.

5.Just let it sit a few minutes and the yogurt will dissolve the aspirin and you'll be able to mix it really easy.

6.Cut that lemon you got into 4 pieces and squeeze some juice into your mixture.

7.Mix.

8.Apply to face with small circular motions. This helps to start exfoliating. Exfoliating is aimed at unclogging a clogged pore before it moves into the pimple stage.

9.You have to figure out how long it's ok to stay on your face. I found 15 min for myself is a good amount of time. If your face hurts well then your leaving it on for too long. Moisturize your face if this happens with Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion. Or something else that will not clog pores.

10.When removing the mask again use small circular motions to promote exfoliation.

Aspirin mask should also help dull your red pock marks. You can also add some honey or whatever else you would like to mix. Add anything that is good for the skin.

Yeah this is a little crazy regimen but hell my face has never looked or felt better in the last 7 years. Many other people reported a major break out around week 2-3 but after that it should be good. It took around a month for me to really start seeing the best effects. Just don't give up on it and I'm sure it can help you.

What should i do???

I have a 4 yr old little girl who has psoriasis ( skin condition) severely all over her body. She has just been approved for enbrel which is medicine given in the form of a shot. i need to know when should i give her the shot when shes awake or when shes asleep?? we have given it 2 her twice and both time we have left bruises b/c she jerks and tries to pull away. i dont want to hurt her but she has to have the medicine. any help would be great.

What should i do???
I understand talking to the child - buying them a special toy that also takes shots (a bear - check internet) - helping them understand why the shot is necessary, and that it will hurt but will make them better may help. I would advocate while she is awake, so she does not associate sleep with pain. Also, see if the doctor will prescribe a numbing solution so you can numb the area first.

I understand psoriasis is one of the results of a systemic yeast syndrome. I am fighting the syndrome - but don't have psoriasis that I know of.

This info may help. For basic information on the systemic yeast syndrome, check out the link on the Welcome page of www.hufa.org.
Reply:If you give when she is asleep would ahe wake up at the moment of the shot? Do you think it might give her bad dreams? I don't know what to do for you that is such a hard decision she needs the medicine but you don't want to scare her. Good luck I am sorry I wasn't much help.
Reply:she'll get used to it but make sure you give it to her when she isn't watching! I know this sounds mean but trick her! When she is watching TV then set next to her and grab her arm then do it!
Reply:Ask your Dr. what he/she thinks. My one concern with giving it to her while she's asleep is that she might wake up when you do it and she will be mad and hurt and might be afraid to go to sleep after that. But if she is fighting you too bad while awake this may be your only choice. She might be one of those kids who would sleep right through getting the shot. Good Luck, I hope the shot works for her.
Reply:give her clay, clay with water (you can add some juice in it at first but after you'll explain that it's better to take it without juice!) read, please, about clay:

Does Lime Sulfur Dip PERMANENTLY stain a cat's coat?

I have a question. I've considering using Lime Sulfur Dip on a cat for a skin condition, though I've read many warnings that it stains wood, jewelry and porcelain. It has me wondering....will it stain the cats's coat and if so for HOW LONG?

In other words, is it a temporary stain or a permanent one? And, it matters to me as this is a showcat who I'm hoping to show in the future.

Does Lime Sulfur Dip PERMANENTLY stain a cat's coat?
Consult a Vet on this. Remember your cat will lick its fur also. This substance may kill it, then no more show cat.
Reply:I don't see why it would, after all, eventually the cat's fur would fall out and new fur would grow in its place. This is normal, it happens in all mammals from time to time gradually, even humans. I don't know how long it would stain the fur that is there but I'm guessing it would be quite a while. But I'm not sure you'd want to put something like that on your cat's fur, it seems like that stuff would be toxic to your cat.
Reply:It depends on if it is a cat that sheds or if it it doesn't. If it sheds, it depends on how fast it takes to shed its coat. If the cat doesn't shed then it will stain permanently. Cats with longer fur tend to shed a lot less than cats with longer fur. This is all assuming that lime sulfur dip even stains a cat's fur.
Reply:We had to dip our six cats once per week in that stuff for six weeks when one of our cats tested positive for ringworm. It did not stain the cats at all. They walked out of the tub wet but the same color as when they went in.

Stinks for a long time, tho. The only way we could get the smell out of our clothes and towels was to lay them out on the lawn in the summer sun.

BE CAREFUL of kittie's eyes. They should have eye drops put in before you do the dip. No need to put their heads/faces entirely in the liquid. Just sponge it over them or something but AVOID THEIR EYES at all costs.

Good luck!
Reply:Well, I'd say the best person to direct that question to would be someone at a Veterinary hospital. Lime can burn skin -- so I would be VERY careful.

By the Way-- has the Vet SEEN this cat for its skin condition? THAT would be the safest route to go!

lady slipper

Please tell me what you think?

I have a skin condition, I cant wear Jewelery or rings, I cant wear my wedding rings because I get a bad rash.Do you think God would approve of a wedding ring tattoo on my ring finger? Did God say anything about tattoo's in the Bible?

Please tell me what you think?
why dont you grow up?
Reply:God accepts any expression of LOVE. If you want a tattoo, do it! Check with your wife first, of course! :)

It is not a prohibition against all tattoos, just ones that have something to do with pagan rituals.

I never thought of a wedding ring tattoo before. That sounds pretty cool. :-)

Namaste.
Reply:Sounds great.

Anything anyone quotes against making marks on your body here, know that the context they are quoting it in (Leviticus) was written so that one does not make marks on their body as it is talking about pagan worship.

The Bible clearly says...do not make tattoo marks on your body toward pagans. I see nothing wrong with you getting a tattoo. Especially something as small and minute as a wedding ring.

I am a very conservative Christian who personally will never have a tattoo (just because I hate needles and I am so fickle that I would probably one day hate my tattoo), but with the Bible as the authority...no, it is not wrong.
Reply:Yes. in the OT it is forbidden. But ..........

1) Make sure what you say it true (real or costume?)

2) talk to your pastor

3) a tattoo on your ring finger will not look like a wedding ring....it'll look like a tattoo of a statement of some kind. You will be asked over %26amp; over what is that and people will start thinking things and some may stumble.

4) have you thought of stringy materials
Reply:Most Christians believe that their body is their temple and getting tatoos falls under defiling thier temple, even if the tatoo means something to you. Me personally I feel that if they tatoo you are getting (like you said you want to get a wedding band tatoo) means something to you and is a representation of part of who you are (wedding band meaning you're a wife) then you should get it. It is not "defiling your temple" it is a decoration that means alot to you and is part of you.

Psoriasis?!?

Hey gang, I've suffered from plaque psoriasis for about 6 years now and it's in the final stages of healing. I use two different creams which are quite helpful - I have also had light treatment and used different methods of soaking. Just wondering if anyone has any helpful hints on what they've used that has worked. Serious comments only, please. (And.... what have been the psychological effects of having this skin condition and how have you handled it?) Must answer both parts to be chosen for best answer!

Psoriasis?!?
Creams may still be working if you have only had this for 6 years, but they will stop working as the body gets use to them. Try alternating between topical steroids, dovonex, and tar. To really get this under control you need to be taking Enbrel. At $20,000 per year, you need good insurance to cover this. Enbrel really works and all you due is inject yourself once a week.
Reply:Enbrel has a program it's called the Encourage Foundation %26amp; depending on your income you can qualify for it for free... their phone # is 1-800-376-2580 or 1-800-282-7752. If you qualify they will fax paperwork to your Dr for a prescription then they will mail it to you from their pharmacy Report It

Reply:I am currently on Enbrel, and injection based antibiotic, and that is the only thing that worked for me. I have had this for 17 years now, and all the topicals did little. I was on methotrexate and it did little, The Enbrel totally cleared my head and is working wonders on my elbows and knees, as well as my torso. I had a pretty bad case, and while it did affect me psychologically, I used humor to deal with it. there was one time I was kicked out of a pool on vacation because of it, and ever since I made sure I had a letter from my doctor clearing me for all acticities so if someone had a concern I could answer it. That made me feel like crap, and gave me a taste of what discrimination must be like, but it also made me realize other people are so misinformed about my condition, that I try to teach those I know about it. Good luck!
Reply:Like you I have had psoriasis for years. Before I got it, I had not even ever heard of it.

Obviously, one has to cope with it. There is no choice.

At times - in my case - it has been more than 50%.

Since years I belong to the American NPF (National Psoriasis Foundation) and in their monthly magazine "Advance" there is always a lot of useful information. The questions you, I and everybody ask are extensively answered in it. One very interesting column is: "It works for me", just what you are looking for.

Greetings from someone who knows what you are going through.

Reply:I suffer from plaque psoriasis, too. I've had it on and off for roughly 7 years.

I've used serveral topical medications. Dovonex works "most of the time". (ha.)

right now my skin is the worst it's ever been... and I've been having hopeless feelings, and depression. How do I deal? I just think, it could be worse. I could be bound to a wheel chair... or unable to talk/see/hear.

Do you think Psoriasis is an immune system fault?

and will there ever be a cure for this skin condition.

Do you think Psoriasis is an immune system fault?
Hi,

Psoriasis is a skin disorder characterised by red, swollen skin lesions covered with silvery white scales. It is not infectious.

Psoriasis is an inherited disease. However there are certain triggering factors such as injury to the skin, vaccinations and certain medications that have been responsible for the development of this condition. It usually takes about a month for new cells to move from the lower layers of the skin to the surface. In psoriasis, this process takes only a few days, resulting in a build up of dead skin cells and formation of thick scales. Excessive alcohol consumption, obesity, lack of or overexposure to sunlight, stress, cold climate and general poor health result in flaring up of psoriasis.

The main symptoms

Skin patches: dry, red and covered with silvery scales; may crack and become painful; usually found on the elbows, knees, trunk, scalp, hands and nails.

Skin lesions: formation of pustules, cracking of skin and redness.

Itching

Small scaling dots on the skin.

Joint pain and aches.

Additional symptoms that may be associated with the disease are nail abnormalities, lesions on the genitalia, burning, itching and discharge from the eyes.

The different types of psoriasis

Different types of psoriasis exhibit different characteristics that may change over time. One form may change to another, or several forms may exist at the same time.

Plaque psoriasis : This is the most common type of psoriasis. It is characterized by raised, red lesions covered with silvery white scales. The scales are caused by a building up of dead skin cells. It may appear on the knees, elbows, scalp, trunk or any other skin surface.

Guttate psoriasis : It is characterised by small red dots of psoriasis. The lesions may have some scaling. It may appear suddenly following a bacterial or viral infection or the administration of drugs like ketoconazole and salicylic acid.

Inverse psoriasis : This is usually found in the folds of the skin in the armpits, groin or under the breast. It appears as smooth, red lesions without scaling and may cause irritation due to rubbing and sweating.

Pustular psoriasis : It is characterized by blisters filled with pus on the skin. The blisters are not infectious. It may be found on the hands and feet or may be spread all over.

Psoriatic arthritis : About 10% of the patients with psoriasis may develop a form of arthritis called psoriatic arthritis. This may cause redness and swelling, primarily on the hands, feet, knees, hips, elbows and spine. It may cause stiffness, pain and joint damage.

Nail psoriasis : Psoriasis can affect the toes and fingernails causing pits of various size, shape and depth. The nails may turn thick and yellow. They may turn red and crumble easily.

The diagnosis is usually based on the appearance of the skin. A skin biopsy or a culture of skin patches may be needed to confirm psoriasis. A blood test may be done to confirm the presence of antigens that cause the problem.

The Treatment

Treatment focuses on control of symptoms and prevention of secondary infection. Severe cases involving large areas of the body, may require intensive treatment. The disorder may be acutely painful. The body may lose fluids and may become susceptible to infections of the internal organs. The condition may further deteriorate resulting in septic shock and death in some cases.

Treatment includes pain killers, sedatives, intravenous fluids and antibiotics. Medicated shampoos or lotions that contain coal tar, cortisone or other corticosteroids, lubricants, antifungal medications, phenol, antibiotics, sodium chloride and other ingredients may be prescribed.

Other treatments include moderate exposure to sunlight or phototherapy. The skin may be sensitised to light by the application of coal tar ointment or by taking oral psoralens (a medication that causes the skin to become sensitive to light). The person is then exposed to ultraviolet light. Sunburn should be avoided as it can worsen the condition.

Maintaining general good health can help reduce the risk of flareups. Adequate rest and exercise, a well balanced diet and treatment of infections can help in making the treatment effective. It is recommended that general skin hygiene should be maintained by taking daily baths. Oatmeal baths may be soothing and may help to loosen the scales.
Reply:Nobody knows what causes psoriasis: if the cause was known, there would be a cure. Hopefully, there will be a cure that works for all one day.

For now, the best natural remedy for psoriasis on the market is Champori Cream and Spray http://www.champori.com/psoriasis-relief... Give it a try; it helped me.

I have a skin condition and I am allergic to the combination of many ingredients in over the counter sunblock and the sun. Anyone know of any common househould items that can be mixed together to make a more organic sunblock?

What kind of screen / dome / cage can I get in Texas for my swimming pool to protect against UV rays?

My wife has a skin condition that causes hives when exposed to the sun too long. On the other hand swimming is her favorite thing to do. Most domes look like they are for winter use only and I can't find any pool cage manufacturers for the Houston area. Please help.

What kind of screen / dome / cage can I get in Texas for my swimming pool to protect against UV rays?
that would be a custom job. I sell pool supplies and the closest thing that I would have is a 20ft wide funbrella, it anchors into the deck and provides shade, but the shadow reaching the pool would only be 10 ft, you would need a few of them, and they are pricey. The next thing would be to make a stainless steel frame and anchor it to the deck, then fasten solar blankets to the frame, just make sure to leave some openings, because the blankets would trap air, and you don't want to suffocate her. But you could make a stainless steel dome frame, anchor it to the deck and fasten solar blankets to it.

Keratosis Pilaris SUCKS?

So, I feel really bad for my friend who has this skin condition. And it sucks. She's too insecure about showing her legs and arms because of this, and afraid she won't get a boyfriend either.

Can anyone give me advice on what to tell her or how to get rid of it? Thanks. :)

Keratosis Pilaris SUCKS?
Keri lotion, buff off dead dry skin with a buff puff or some other kind of buffing pad thing.

and realize that guys are not always the most observant, and aren't all about looks.

Maybe this will just guarantee the boyfriend she does get doesn't care about how her legs look, but about the things she says and does.
Reply:This looks like a good site to show her. I'm not going to pretend that I know a cure when I don't! Good luck to her.

What's the best brand of Tea Tree Oil?

I hear that some is not really 100%, and includes others types of oils. I plan to use the tea tree oil for a skin condition and don't want to get ripped off on the fake stuff!!

What's the best brand of Tea Tree Oil?
Hi There

Here is the one I use.

NATURE'S POWERFUL ANSWER FOR ALL TYPES OF SKIN IRRITATIONS.

DR. SCHULZE DESCRIBES JOJOBA %26amp; TEA TREE OIL:

This deeply penetrating formula is both soothing and emollient to the skin and kills bacteria and fungus on contact. It will also reduce inflammations due to irritation and infections. Use this formula when the Anti-Infection Formula would be too strong or intense, especially on sensitive areas. This is the perfect solution for dry skin, baby’s diaper rash, children’s minor cuts, or for dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis or any general skin irritation. This formula is soothing to the skin and penetrates more deeply than any other oil. At the same time it is a strong anti-bacterial and anti-fungal agent, yet it’s mild enough for a baby’s bottom. No household should be without this great formula.

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY ABOUT JOJOBA %26amp; TEA TREE OIL:

I wanted to thank you for your wonderful Jojoba and Tea Tree Oil. I have been suffering from psoriasis, eczema, and all types of dermatitis all my life. I have been to every doctor and used EVERYTHING and the best results I ever had was a few days of relief. After using your formula many times a day for three weeks, for the first time in my life my psoriasis is gone and my skin looks and feels great and all the redness is gone too. I also did your Intestinal Detox Program and take your SuperFood, which gives me much more energy in the morning. I have more energy now than many people half my age. S.J. Salt Lake City, UT

Best of health to you

Cheers
Reply:I use Tea Tree Oil sold under the trade mark of "SUN" from Australia. It is 100% pure oil from Malaleuca Alternifolia.

And it's really great stuff!
Reply:WITHOUT A DOUBT "Thursday Plantation" is THE BEST TEA TREE OIL. It is the original and first tea tree oil imported from Australia many years ago. Tremendously effective and very powerful! Others I've tried cannot compare to this oil.
Reply:The label should clearly tell you what is in the bottle. Look for pure essential oil, the label should have the botanical name as well. Buy from a reputable distributor with fresh stock rather than a multi level marketer.

How do you help someone who is depressed?

This goes deep. Someone has had a bad life, bad things done to them, and, for some unknown reason, bad things just keep happening. Actual person (not me...family): sexual torture, cancer, amputation, bad skin condition, feeling of being ugly and not wanted, divorce; alone and choosing to live miles away from family......???

How do you help someone who is depressed?
give him a gun.
Reply:You get them to professional help
Reply:I have a friend who suffers from bipolar disorder and i think mostly just being their and never doing any thing to hurt them emotionally
Reply:Its difficult to change things for a depressed person and I know that this is a standard answer but just be there as much as you can, the problem is you can start to get depressed too and that just don't help anyone. I talk from experience!
Reply:this is a tough one, but somewhere along the line you have to accept that love for yourself is the road out of and to salvation for yourself and your self worth, and planting that seed and changing a way of thinking that is more positive and loving is the only way up from the place that you are in. We all have the strength to change, but the first step is always the wisdom to know we have to change, courage to admit that we have to and the strength of will to carry it out. start to make those changes for your self, or by professional help, and you will be surprised what help and love comes your way and the life you wish for could be a reality. Good luck the first step starts with you .....
Reply:Be there supporting and listening to them. They really need to seek help for themselves via their GP who can either prescribe medication or a referral for counselling. It sounds like a lot of bad things have befallen your friend who could benefit from counselling to help put things in perspective. I wish him/her better mental health.
Reply:someone with that many issues can't be helped by a novice (no offense.. I'm not skilled enough to help that person either). Best you can do is be supportive and make sure they see a counselor (I'm sure they have.. but make sure they follow the advice and keep going.. drive them if you have to.. be a support)

Really.. just being there is the best you can do... you'll piss them off sometimes (because they won't understand how you could care about them so much.. and will try to push you away)... but just keep on keeping on.
Reply:You're right this is deep. I would suggest this person get some counseling. But, if they refuse just try to be there for that person. Try to make him/her laugh as much as possible. Also encourage this person not to wallow in self pity. The more we wallow, the worse we feel and the more bitter we get. Also, encourage this person to change things the things that can be changed. See a dermatologist about the skin condition. Go to a beautician and get a hair cut. That usually makes people feel better. Tell them that they are better off without the spouse that divorced them. Anything else that you can think of to help that person get some self confidence back.
Reply:What a lot of terrible things to happen, no wonder they are feeling depressed. Although talking to them and asking if there is anything you can do, listen to what they say, actually hear what they say, dont misinterpret what you think you want to hear. Sometimes you may need to suggest that they may need to seek medical advice and make sure that if you want to if you offer your support then make sure you can stick to it. Sometimes though just being there, perhaps not even talking its just the fact someone is there. You may if you are really concerned tell them that you think they need to see someone, and you will go with them. Its very hard for a depressed person to acknowledge when they need help, they always think they are coping, until there not then it does not matter. I know i have been there, but i had help and support from my sister and family. I hope this helps you. Helen.
Reply:There is no simple answer because all these aspects contribute to the person's sense of low self esteem. There are medical and psychological routes to follow but it has to start by finding some stars in the person night sky! Some things they do see as talents or positives. There needs to be a point to making changes and trying otherwise it is simply another chore and not one that the person will take too. I wish you and them well, it all starts with communication and having a friend or 2 who will make th effort for no self reward other than being there and being true.

Best wishes

Andy
Reply:Helping someone who is depressed is a very difficult task.

Two of my friends went through very dark times when they were depressed and it was quite challenging to support them. Often people who are in a bad place lash out, they are easily upset or annoyed and struggle with day to day life.

First of all I would ask does this person feel able to talk to their doctor? In some cases, medication can be prescribed which helps correct the balance of chemicals in the brain, after which therapies may be more effective.

Professional counselling can help, but support from friends and family will also go a long way - giving the person the opportunity to talk about things and being there for them.

The Samaritans offer free, confidential emotional support at any time of the day or night by phone, text message or email. They do not offer opinions or advice, but will be there to listen should you or your family member ever need to get things off your chest. http://www.samaritans.org/

Well done for being there for your relative - keep up the good work and look after yourself too.

Warmest regards,

Reply:I went through the whole cancer and depression thing myself. Clinical depression has to be treated professionally. The problem is getting the person to go to the doctor about it...do whatever it takes to get her there even if you have to tie her up and drag her.
