Baby has lizard legs?

My 5 month old baby's legs are incredibly dry. I've tried various baby creams and baby oil and to improve their general texture and it's made little impact. It's weird because it seems to be JUST his legs. He's been like this for a while but I dismissed it in the earlier months as something like cradle cap, now I'm wondering if it a permanent skin condition. There is no discolouration or scabbing...it's like he's got goosebumps all the time. Has anyone else have experience with this?

Baby has lizard legs?
Hi! Well my son has had dry skin on account that he was born he in a high elevation dry mountain climate and most everybody has issues with dry skin but especially the little ones.

My doctor recommended that I use dove moisturizing soap ONLY at bath time with my son. He said the baby soap products and lotion do not work at all and tend to make it worse for little ones with really dry skin. So I started using Dove and whenever I take him from the tub, I immediately rub about a nickel size of vaseline on his dryest areas that are still quite DAMP. It actually works good but if you dry him off and then apply it, it just makes everything super sticky and oily and the dampness is the combination of moisture that somehow locks it in without leaving that stickier feeling.

Also I have observed that people who have darker skin usually have to use some serious moisturizers because my husband is really dark complected and if he doesn't use the same bit of vaseline on his skin after his baths, or washing his face, he said it irritates him.

There is no lotion product out there that really works in the way of moisturizing as we may be led to think, like lubriderm with the alligator, its just not true!

What works really well for me personally is that I mix my own version of skin product to moisturize myself. I use vaseline intensive care therapy lotion along with a finger tip of real vaseline especially when I have been washing my hands a lot and notice that they are getting super dry. It really works best and the reason is because real vaseline locks in the moisture and protects the skin even when it is washed constantly.

Try this method and avoid oils, and other medicated type products. Because those are not always fomulated for small babies and some herbal type ingredients could be harmful or make it worse. If the vaseline method doesn't improve things after about a week of doing it continuously, then you need to talk to your doctor about it. Because it could be a skin condition that needs to be medically treated with specific medicated skin products. So leave that to a professional because they usually know which things are safest and best for your baby. I really think the vaseline will work for you. If it doesn't then it is definitely something that needs to be checked by a doctor.
Reply:I've never had that sort of experience, but this site may help you:

Reply:could be an allergy or skin reaction. Bring it up at your next well baby check up. They may have to give him some prescription cream like hidrocordizone or something. I wouldnt worry too much unless it gets red and sore.
Reply:He could have eczema. My daughter had it as a baby, and still does. Have you tried a little vaseline? And, the soap and other lotions you are using on him may be making it worse. I would ask your doc about it, but you should use the non-fragrance, non-alcohol, free-n-clear types of soap and lotion for him. I also noticed that the less she was bathed, the better her skin was because it built up it's natural oils. Ease up on the baths if you are bathing him everyday. Good luck!!
Reply:u should try this stuf the specialist gave to help my daughters dermatitis. its Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream.it works really well to replace moisture to her skin. i used it on her upper arms, which also looked goosebumpy. the condition you are descibing is eczema or dermatitis, depending on where you live. they are both one in the same. a locoid solution can also be used but only in extreme cases.
Reply:I get that on my upper arms. I have to exfoliate a lot and moisturize all the time.

I highly recommend a cream called Glaxal Base. It is used as a base for many prescription creams. It is perfume free and dye free and non-greasy so it won't make matters worse! It is safe for use on infants.
Reply:use Ego QV Bath Oil in every bath twice daily. it worked wonders for my bubba's dry skin!
Reply:If its little pimple like things...there isn't much you can do for him. My son has the same problem. I have antibiotic cream in case they get inflamed...but my son has seen all kinds of specialists, and they have told me that he will have to wait and grow out of it.
