My boston terrier scratches till she bleeds, HELP!?

i have a 1 1/2 year old boston terrier, she doesnt have mites, but she does have a "skin condition". shes had a e-cone on for the better of 10 months. she scratchs her neck till she bleeds. she doesnt have any fur left on her neck. ive gone to 3 diffrent vets, spent close to a $1,000, and still she itches. does any one have any ideas? she has NO mites. ive gone through tons of diffrent vet pills, now im just giving her benadryl because i cant afford the $200 vet bill, to be told its a infection that they cant seem to clear up. PLEASE HELP ME! i feel so bad for my baby. (and she looks pethatic in the cone)

My boston terrier scratches till she bleeds, HELP!?
I was going to say mange, or mites..

You might want to contact a boston terrier rescue.. or breeder. These people know ore about that breed of dog then any vet.. ask them what they may think it is, and if they would recommend a treatment that you can do yourself.. etc.

Good luck!
Reply:animal skin cream may work i would try it buy it at a local pet store it's pretty cheap
Reply:I have had a dog that scratched severely also. I found that Benadryl worked wonders to help ease her itching pain and then I used a hydracortisone spray that you can get at most pet stores, feed stores, or Walmart that you just spray on the area. It even helped the hair to grow back.

Good Luck!!!
Reply:That sounds like food allergys !!!!!!!! What do you feed ? Maybe you shoul get a allergy testing done
Reply:Don't use skin cream on your dog, their skin is much different than ours. Benydrill is a great help but will make your dog a little sleepy. If there is no allergies to speak of then you may want to contact a groomer for some great shampoo's out there. Oatmeal bath, just plain ole oatmeal bath, will also help but here's a key never ever bath your dog more than every other week. You will take out the natural oils in their skin that helps them heal and protect the skin. Also getting hot spot ointment from any pet store or grocery store, put that on the spots that seem to be the worst see if that don't help calm the itch some as well. I hope that helps, it helped one of the dogs that came through my house for rescue with a similar problem.
Reply:hi, i know you are talking about scratching but if it wasn't her neck and it was her but or something then it would chew itself. try this and see if it will work. there may be other training within this site that may help. the main site is perfectpaws.com good luck

also you probably have already done this but have you changed the shampoo you use. and if you use the flea medicine i would try quitting that and see if that was the cause. have you changed her diet also. even her bedding she may be alergic to. don't stop all at once. or it can just be a nervous habbitt. since you have gone to 3 dif vets then they should have found anykind of skin condition, so i would try this and see if this helps, keep me updated.
Reply:A lot of people had some good answers and I think you should try all possibilities. She could have dry skin condition and one cheap way we use to fix that was by adding vegetable oil to our dogs food. About a table spoon or so. The oil helps condition their skin and also makes the hair shiner, so if nothing else it wont hurt.
Reply:A canine dermatologist recommended this for a friend's dog, who had a similar chronic problem.

A diet of lamb, rice and kelp often helps.

Cook the white rice with 3 cups of water per cup of rice, and cook until all is absorbed. Grind or chop the lamb and feed it raw, mixed in the rice with sea kelp..( one capsule, 2 feedings per day) . give this a try for 2 weeks. If there is even any improvement, then begin adding vegetables.no tomato, corn or onion, but other veggies are ok..peel all potatoes..

my friend's German shepherd went through the same thing....seemed to have no hope, but that diet finally gave him relief.

Most store bought meats have growth hormones, and antibiotics, given during the growing or 'finishing' feeding. but lamb is not fed that stuff.

The kelp makes a big difference.

If your dog doesn't like the rice, you can boil fresh fish (not farmed) and pour the broth over the rice.

By the way, vets often over-look the household possibilities..often the allergen is carpet cleaners, or upholstery shampoo..or air fresheners..Swiffer cleaner has been a common problem since it came out recently..
