The army is trying to send my brother to IRAQ again for the 3rd time...he isn't mentally well?

My brother has been to Iraq two times now they are trying to send him there for a third time but he isn't mentally well....he was supposed to get out in March 2008 but they back locked him in or some crap....but my question is what can myself and my family do to make sure that they don't send him back over there? I know there has to be something....I'm sure God will protect him but the fact remains that my brother isnt mentally stable...he has nightmares and a bad bad temper...from being over there he even has a skin condition that causes him to sweat alot even though it may be cold outside...he is the only brother I have and it really takes a toll on me mentally and physically everytime he is sent away what can we do PLEASE HELP!!

The army is trying to send my brother to IRAQ again for the 3rd time...he isn't mentally well?
I'm so sorry to hear about your brother. I really don't know what to tell you, but I just wanted to tell you to tell your brother thank you for your sacrifice.

Bless him.
Reply:He is going to have to talk to Mental Health at his hospital...they are the only ones that can say if he is mentally "well" or not...there have been a bunch of soldiers who have been there three or four times...they Stopped Lossed him...it happens all the time..happened before the war and will probably happen long after...he will still be able to get out when he returns from Iraq...
Reply:if they want to send him back to Iraq you cant do anything.

my bf has been their 3 times and he is going to come home for a year and then go back for a 4th time so we cant do anything but pray that this war will end soon so they dont have to go back over their and my bf has been thier for the last 2 year without coming home at all
Reply:Get him into treatment right away. PTSD is what he has. Trust me, they will try to screw him by tossing him for a behaviour discharge or something. Tell him to see the docs and get it all down on paper.
Reply:Did he ever have his post deployment mental health exam? Have him see a counselor at mental/behavioral health. It sounds like some symptoms of PTSD. The predeployment and field training exercises could really trigger him. He needs to start talking to someone soon. The diagnosis should set him at nondeployable status and they can place him on Read D so he could continue with his therapy. If he is still active duty, he is at their needs and they may still deploy him. After his visit and assessment at mental health, he needs to talk to his CO and get the assessment to them. Good luck and please feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.
Reply:If you can get a Army Doctor to issue a Section 8 discharge, he can get out, but otherwise he is stcuk. There are alot of soldiers in Iraq who are on anti-depressant, anti-anxiety, or other medications for their mental health. Realistically he will have to go. You might want to talk to a civlian lawyer who specializes in military law to give your brother advice.
Reply:You mentioned that he is your only brother... I assume that he is the only living heir to your father's name. He may be exempt on a technicality. He needs mental health but think about this; he may suffer more if he lets his friends go back and he doesn't go with them. That was a huge problem in Vietnam, survivor's guilt. We pulled out people individually and not as a unit. Those that got home worried about their friends still in combat. We don't do that now but the unit has to return and he may regret the rest of his life if something happened to one of his friends.
Reply:Unless they can certify him as mentally unfit--I doubt that your brother is going to be able to escape serving a third tour.

And a fourth.

And a fifth.

These army jagoffs don't care much for their own soldiers' well being.

And neither does our own government.
Reply:Dear concerned relative:

You need to do a couple of things; however, you also have to move swiftly - even still there is no guarantee this will work, but here it goes:

1. Obtain medical documentation from medical records that belong to your brother - he may have seen both a Medical Doctor and possibly a Mental Health professional at the current place of assignment.

2. Attached are links to the Senate and House in Washington DC. Find out who your representatives are and write them. Then call the staffers in the DC office and find out when the Senators and Congressmen/women are back home.

3. Congress takes a break during the month of August - this will be your best chance to get a hold of these people at your location.

4. Do NOT attempt this if your information is only half together - you need to spend the time, burn the midnight oil, and have all of your ducks in order before you speak with these people; else, you will be sent back to the drawing board.

5. Be persistent, consistent, and most of all POLITE. Anger, the display of emotional feelings, and other subjective unprofessional emotional displays will NOT be to your or your brother's benefit. Be and act like a professional Attorney - it is the only way to get this done.

Best of luck to you - the rest now is in your corner. Follow the links to find out who represents you - remember to vote - and thank your brother for me for HIS SERVICE, I for one am grateful.
Reply:Bad temper and nightmares? Tell him to join the club! Contact your Congressman!

Please DO NOT listen to Ted the Sped! The last thing your brother needs to do is fake an injury like Teddy suggests. Do it right and do it legal!
Reply:A doctor has to clear him to go, if the doctor doesn't find him to be in mental/physical condition for deployment, they can halt his deployment status until a full evaluation is done. If he is not receiving help he needs to seek it immediately and/or you and your family need to contact his command or chaplain if he has not been seen or is choosing not to see medical personell for the issues he is having.

DON'T yell at the command. Do explain you are truly worried about him, that he hasn't been acting himself. Explain what it is he is doing and that you would greatly appreciate any help they can render him.

Keep in mind please, PTSD and Combat Stress are different. He sounds more PTSD BUT, I am not a doctor, nor have I seen him to evaluate his symptoms.

I have sympathy for your brother in those regards. If he does not seek treatment, that is his own doing. He may want to go back. You'd be amazed how many of them actually want to go back.
Reply:Sorry, they don't care about your brother
Reply:Have him go to the Mental Health unit on the post and have them determine if he is mentally fit to be deployed.
Reply:I agree with Max. Get your Congressman involved.

GO to his or her office and sit there until you are seen.

The advice about being polite and calm is crap too.

If he can control himself he doesn't have a problem.

Use the Red Cross, Church and whatever else you can.

If your Senator won't do anything go to the press.
