Help my help my cat to PooP!?

Hello, im new here and need some help...my cat pitty keeps licking his stomach in the same centralized spot on his stomach..i took him to the vet in july and it cleared up with a steriod shot, and again in Aug. We went to the vet and got another shot but then i left town and it was horrible when i got back 4 days later, we went and did all the tests (240 bucks) and the xray showed he was full of poop, i gave him colace-he threw it up 1 hour later, then some butter, then some laxatone.....3 small poops later he seemed better, but today he's back to feelin down, he'll crouch to get comfy and walk slowly to the box, he always pooped on a towl i put down (behavior prob) but now he's actually using the box. He still licks and licks the place on his stomach..could it be a stuck hairball? It's not a skin condition..the vets are stumped and Im broke from trying to nail it down. Anyone ever heard of this problem..and help, i would be so thankfull...I also am changing over his diet currently

I give my cat a stool softner called Lactulose. Got it from the Vet. It works pretty good. I give it to her after she eats when she needs it. It'll stay down better if she eats first. Also some cats get constipated because of a build up of hairball in there stomach. If you have a natural(homeopathic) pet store around you, you can ask them. Or you can check for an intenet pet store (not 800petmeds, it has to be a homeopathic store) The stuff I give my cat for hair balls is a brown powder. I mix it in her food and I think there is fennel seed in it. The natural stuff definitely works.


Example, My cat had a kidney stone the size of a dime. The vet wanted to do expensive surgery. Instead we looked into the natural medicine, followed a regimen of adding a couple of things to her food everyday, and in 3 or 4 months (can't remember) when we had her xrayed again, the stone was completely gone. The Vet couldn't believe it, and neither could we.





The Vet bills can really add up, you should look into pet insurance. It's worth it.





Almost forgot, reading the next answer jogged my memory. I mix her soft food with a little pumpkin (canned). It adds a little fiber and helps to turn the wheels so to speak.
Reply:Try going to an "ask the vet" site or google "cat health" or "cat care".
Reply:You changed his diet recently? Before this started happening? If so, that could be the cause.





If he's chronically constipated, try to get more water into him. Mix water in with his dry food, and even a little bit with his wet food.





He may be avoiding the towel because it's hurting him to poop, so he's associating the towel with the pain. If that's the case, he may end up avoiding the litter box, too.





I'd go to another vet for a second opinion.

Reply:i think you need to see another vet. it sounds like an intestinal blockage. these can be bad. they made need to operate and take it out. could be he ate something a while ago, that he just can't pass. (something as in not food)

Reply:have they done and xray or given him an enema....maybe it's time to check out another vet. my cat was really sick back in july and it turns out he was constipated they had to take an xray to find out that he was constipated. and they did an enema while he was under and he has been fine since.
Reply:I wish you would have told us what diet you are changing him to.


Bowels need moisture to process waste through the system. If you cat eats only dry food and does not drink much water that could be the reason for his constipation. Doesn't the vet know this for heaven's sake.





A few doses of laxatone will usually move things along and butter is usually good too as some cats really like it.





So I would take him off of dry food altogether for the next month. Get a good quality canned food such as Natural Balance or Nature's Variety (Prairie). I always add a teaspoon of filtered water to each serving of canned food.





It sounds to me like he just gets impacted from all the dry food trying to get processed. If his food has a lot of corn in it, that is not well digested by cats.





If he does not like canned food just serve it and pick it up after half an hour or so if he doesn't eat it. A cat can easily fast for 24 to 36 hours and he will eat what you put down when he feels hungry. This will also give his digestive system a chance to rest which will be very beneficial for him.
Reply:When my cat gets constipated I give him a hairball remedy. Its basically a tube of petroleum jelly that is fish flavored. It can be purchased at walmart, target, etc.
Reply:give your cat some tuna in sunfloweroil that will help. stay away from dried food and no cows milk either. i remember once when my cat was constipated the vet gave her some castor oil did the trick but cost me about $40.
Reply:Try giving him some cod liver oil. It comes in capsules and you can get them pretty cheaply at Walmart or the equivalent, look in the vitamin section. My cats like the taste and it should clean your cat out IF it's a hairball. Sometimes cats get bowel obstructions. His diet might have been constipating him too. You say you are changing that already. Try the cod liver oil. Good luck. I hope it helps him.
Reply:If your vet cannot tell you what is wrong with your cat then it is time to find a new vet. It is their job, and should not be at a stand still if your cat is having this much trouble or be in this much pain.
